What is Mobile Wallet?
A mobile wallet is an app on your phone, smartwatch or tablet that stores payment information from your debit and credit cards. Using a mobile wallet is a convenient way for you to make purchases in a store without having to use your physical cards. It also can speed up online shopping by checking out with these stored cards versus typing in your physical card numbers. Mobile wallets can also store tickets, rewards and loyalty cards, and gift card information.
A great benefit is that you can store all your payment card information in one place, eliminating the need to carry the cards with you. Imagine no longer carrying a wallet. Ok, maybe you are not ready to go that far, but give it a try!
Mobile wallet transactions tend to be quicker than paying with cash or a credit card. To use, open the app, touch your phone to the compatible reader next to a register, and the app will do the rest!
The increased usage of smartphones is a large factor for creating the mobile wallet, why not have the conveniences of using the item you always leave home with?
Security features of using Mobile Wallet:
The card info you add to your device is encrypted into a token. This means that your actual card number is not stored in the device. If a merchant who accepts mobile payments experiences a breach of payment information, your card number will not be compromised. The Credit Union can simply remove that token associated with your card. It is recommended that if you use a mobile wallet on your device, that you add a lock or fingerprint.
What type of Mobile Wallet can I use?
The most widely known mobile wallets are Apple Pay on the IPhone, Samsung Pay found on Samsung devices and Google Pay found on Android devices.
These mobile devices come with a mobile wallet already installed. There are other apps that you can install to use as a mobile wallet but you will want to be careful to read their privacy policies and understand how your data is secured.
